ISLAND OF DR. BRAIN
- HOW TO USE THIS PATCH
First, we'd like to apologize for any inconvenience you have
experienced with your "The Island of Dr. Brain" program.
The patches that accompany this "README" file will fix all
the situations that are known as of the date of this README
file (shown by the DIR command).
The following instructions will provide a step by step procedure
to update your current version of "The Island of Dr. Brain".
If you are uncertain or need assistance with using this patch,
please contact our Technical Support Department. Information on
how to reach Technical Support will be provided at the end of this
file.
- INSTALLING THIS PATCH
1. Use the DOS "COPY" command to copy the patches to the same
directory that your "Island of Dr. Brain" game files are located. In most
cases, the game files are in directory C:\SIERRA\BRAIN2, although this
will change if you chose a different hard drive or directory when you were
installing "The Island of Dr. Brain". Here's an example of the "COPY"
command:
COPY B:*.* C:\SIERRA\BRAIN2
This example "COPY" command will copy all the files from the current
directory on drive B: to the "Island of Dr. Brain" game directory
on drive C:. This example assumes that the patch disk is in drive
B: and that the game files are in the \SIERRA\BRAIN2 directory on
drive C:.
2. Once all the patches are in your game directory, then you're ready
to go! The only cloud on the horizon now is that your previously
saved games may no longer be usable. Try restoring from a previous
saved game. Preferably go back at least 2 saved games.
If you do experience a problem, you may need to delete all the
files with the name "BRAINSG". The following commands will do this
for you:
TYPE "C:" <ENTER>
TYPE "CD\SIERRA\BRAIN2" <ENTER>
TYPE "DEL BRAINSG.* " <ENTER>
3. Included are manual install instructions if you had problems trying to
install using the normal install program.
Island of Dr Brain
Manual Installation Instructions (rev A)
Sierra On-Line's Technical Support department prepared the following
instructions as an added service to our customers. PLEASE NOTE: Sierra
does not make any claims, guarantees, and/or promises that the following
instructions will work on any and/or all computer systems.
If you have had a problem with the Install program that came with
the game, the following steps should get "Island of Dr. Brain" onto the
hard drive and allow you to run the game. In order to install "Island
of Dr. Brain", you will need at least 7 Megs of free hard disk space
for installation.
Note: Use these instructions only as a last resort. You might want to
try to create the Boot Disk in the Install program and try re-installing
the game under the Boot environment. If that fails, then the following
instructions should work for you:
1) Make a BRAIN2 subdirectory within the SIERRA directory. For more
information on how to perform this task, please consult your DOS manual.
Place the Startup / Disk 1 into the floppy drive.
2) From the BRAIN2 prompt on the hard drive, follow the instructions below
(if you are using the B: drive for installation, substitute B: for A:)
COPY A:\*.* <ENTER>
3) Insert the next disk in the drive and copy the contents of that disk
into the BRAIN2 subdirectory by using the same command as in Step 2.
Do the same for all remaining Game Disks. NOTE: It is important that
you copy all Game Disks in sequential order. Failure to do so can cause
the game to lock up.
4) Once all of the disks have been copied, you will need to link the
necessary game files together. To accomplish this, make sure you are
at the BRAIN2 prompt and follow the steps listed below.
COPY /B RESOURCE.P0? RESOURCE.000 <ENTER>
DEL RESOURCE.P0? <ENTER>
COPY /B RESOURCE.A0? RESOURCE.AUD <ENTER>
DEL RESOURCE.A0? <ENTER>
5) Now that the game is installed, you must run the Install program to
select the hardware options appropriate for your system. At the BRAIN2
prompt, type INSTALL <ENTER> and follow the menu prompts as they appear.
Once finished, you should be able to run the game by typing BRAIN2 <ENTER>.
